Farm Animals!

Animals are definitely one of the most important things in this game. A ranch wouldn't be complete without them. And in terms of making money, animals certainly give you decent amounts of it. But be sure to treat them nicely and not neglect them, or else they might get sick and even die.

Dog:
Your trusty dog starts off as a puppy when you first run the farm but he'll grow up by Fall in the 1st year. If you raise your dog well enough, he'll be able to protect your livestock at night by fending off any wild animals. This is important if you wish to leave your animals out at night rather than putting them inside. So, hug your puppy to sleep every night now!
Use whistle often to train your dog and your dog will be able to herd your cow and sheep to you when the bell is rung. It’ll save a lot of time getting them back to the barn. Be careful though, if you whistle when a villager is in the area, they’ll be dazzled, and they’ll be unhappy. You can make a confession at the church later on.
When your dog grows up, one day Won will drop by to sell you a Dog Ball (pink ball) for 100g. Buy it to train your dog. Use the pink ball often and your dog will become more intelligent. It’s very important if you want to win the Dog Race Festival. And a reminder, don’t throw the pink ball to your horse as there is cases that it disappear into the shipping bag.

Horse:
When you first visit Yodel Farm, you'll run into an event where you end up getting your pony. If you can take good care of it until it grows up, Barley will let you keep it afterwards. However, treat it poorly and it will be taken away from you until you can show that you're ready for it.
A pony is pretty much useless. You don’t feed it but you still need to brush and talk to it every day. Therefore, you need to buy a brush as soon as you can afford it at the Blacksmith for 800g. Whistle to him once a day, and at 1st it won’t respond but later he will. I don’t put my pony outside as I have trouble getting it back in later.
On the other hand, the horse will allow you to move around your farm much faster by riding on it. And you can ride it directly into its stable, saving all the trouble pushing. He can even function as a portable shipping bin.
Ride on it often, and make it run a lot as training for it to win the Horse Race Festival. And of course, its heart rates need to be high. If you win, you’ll get a picture to decorate your house. But the picture will still be the boy from the boy version posing with the horse even if you are playing the girl version. Too bad huh?!

Chickens:
Chickens are traditional farm animals. You may have up to 10 chickens and each of them can produce up to 300G each day, which is 3,000G daily from them alone. Quite a lot of money you can get from these small birds right?
You can purchase chicken at the poultry farm for 1,500G. And the chicken feed cost 10g each. But if you have corn, you can throw it into the watermill to produce chicken feed. One corn you can get 10 feeds. Remember to feed them every day. If you missed feeding them, they won’t lay an egg the next day. If you don’t have chicken feed, make a fence on your farm and put them in it, and they’ll find their own food. But make sure to put them in before you go to sleep.
You can place an egg in the incubator to hatch them. And when your egg hatches, unlike other animals, you don’t need to feed them until they grow into chicken. A chick won’t lay eggs but they are just so cute.
There are 3 qualities for eggs. To see what the qualities are, hold the egg in your hand or your rucksack or both and open your rucksack by pressing the triangle button. Move your cursor to the egg and press triangle button again to explain item.
You can enter your chicken in the Chicken Sumo Festival and if it wins, it’ll produce Gold Egg from then onwards.

Cows:
Cows will give you a lot of money throughout the game if you treat them right. The keys to keeping them happy are remembers to brush, feed and talk to them every day, and eventually they'll like you even more. They also like to get milk, so buy a Milker from the blacksmith for 2000g. One more thing is, don’t put them outside on bad weather day or they’ll get bad mood, and worse, sick and die.
You can buy a cow at the Yodel Ranch for 6,000G and its feed for 20g each. Grow some grass on your farm so that you don’t need to buy the feeds.
You can also buy the cow potion and use it on an adult cow to make it pregnant. It cost 3000G. The process is a bit slow, but when the time comes, your cow will give birth to a cute little calf. Calf can’t produce milk yet.
If you manage to make a cow have enough hearts that it can win the Cow Festival, it will start producing Gold milk every day.

As you can see, cheese makes a fortune, so get the cheese maker as soon as possible!

Sheep:
Sheep need to be taken care of the same way as cows. And sheep likes to be shear too. You can buy a Clipper at the Blacksmith for 1800g. Sheep will produce wool roughly once a week, and for a while that wool will be of worth only a little. However, once you get the yarn maker this will significantly change. Sheep, despite making little money, are always fun to have around and make a great addition to the farm.
You can buy a sheep at the Yodel Ranch for 4000g and a sheep potion for 3000g, which is same with the cow potion. And you can’t sheer lamb wool. For me, I would rather buy a new sheep than to breed one as the process is a lot slower and they cost not much different.
Make sure your sheep have enough heart level to win the Sheep Festival so that it’ll start producing Golden Wool and you can make Golden Yarn with it.

Same like the cheese maker, get a yarn maker as soon as you can to make more fortunes!

Fish:
Harvest Moon Back to Nature introduced the concept of breeding fish. Pretty excited right? When you catch a fish put it in the pond on your farm, and then continue to put fish feed in there every day, and sooner or later, providing you also continue to add fish, the fish will grow and multiplies. So, you’ll begin to have more and more fish!
Before that, do you know how to get a fishing rod? On summer, go to the beach at night, talk to Greg and he’ll give one to you (you must not have full tools equipment on you). Now you can fish everywhere; lake, ocean and river. And you can buy fish food at the Supermarket for 20g each. You only need to drop one pack of fish food to the pond everyday regardless of how many fish you have in it.
If you get 50 fish in your pond, Greg will drop by on your farm and you will get an upgraded fishing rod (fishing pole) from him. And hey, you can always sell those now-plump fish since you have a lot now.

Bees:
Plant flowers as soon as you can and when it blooms, bees will appear on your farm. They’ll make a nest on your apple tree by the fish pond. On that day onwards, you’ll be able to collect one jar of honey every day.
Give one jar of the honey to Louis as soon as you get them. And soon, the honey will upgrade to rare honey. Rare honey worth more compares to the normal honey which is 50g. Rare honey is worth 60g.
